Explore Pefki village

Hike the gorge of Pefki

Relatively easy about 3-4 kilometres. You may start from the village and walk down to Makrygialos. You might need to have a taxi waiting for you to bring back to the village if you do not want to walk back up.

Take a short walk to the Cistern of Pefki

Also called ``Kate Vrissi``, the water flows from the springs and it used to be the main water supply for the village from the 15th century. The cistern was built at the end of 19th ce and it was in use until about the 1950’s.It is located just below the main road and to get there follow the signs to “Kato Vrisi”.

Visit the Folklore Museum of Pefki

The Folklore museum is housed in the old school at the top of the village and don’t miss the vivid guided tour by 80-year-old, Mrs. Ourania. Ask the locals where to find her to arrange a visit.

Hike the E4 trail

Pefki village in on the E4 European Walking Path. The entire Cretan trail is about 500 km in total, beginning at Kastelli-Kissamos in the west and ending at Kato Zakros in the east, but you can select parts of the trail close to the village to explore the area on foot.

The Estavromenos church

Visit the Estavromenos church on the top of the hill and enjoy breathtaking views over the entire area and the sea

The ancient Olive Trees Trail

Hike the Ancient Olive Trees Trail to visit the perennial olive groves, which date back some 3000 years. The olive groves are on the outskirts of the village just below the main road.
